SUMMER CAMP 2019 AT Sundial
We will continue to offer an additional summer camp location at the beachfront Sundial Resort on Sanibel in 2019. With Sundial as our partner, we will hold 3 weeks of Island Skills Camp for kids and Counselors in Training. This means more ocean exploration and more fun!
This camp will be small and meaningful, with big ocean experiences. The beachfront location means even more time in the water. And of course, no Sanibel Sea School camp would be complete without island exploration, surfing, macramé, and new friendships.
Sundial's Sanibel Sea School camp includes lunch for campers each day. At the end of each week families are invited to celebrate at our Milk & Cookies Slideshow, held at 3:30 PM on Fridays.
SANIBEL SKILLS CAMP AT Sundial (AGES 6-13)

June 3-7, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Doin’ the Dewlap Week
FLASH of orange – this is mine! FLASH of orange – I mean it, don’t come any closer! This is lizard language for “get out of my territory!”. Anole lizards have a brightly colored flap of skin under their chins called a dewlap or gular fold that they use to communicate with other lizards. This week we’ll dip into the dewlap and learn about all of the other animals on Sanibel that have a similar gular pouch and all of the different uses. We’ll play some communication games and see how many different ways we can mimic a gular pouch. And a camp about lizards? Yep, we’re definitely going to try our hand at catching some like a true island kid would! Get ready for a scaly, dewlap-y week!
July 29 - August 2, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Leave Nothing but Footprints Week
Follow those three-toed tracks! Wading birds often leave nothing behind but footprints in the soft, wet sand. This week we’re going to track down these long-legged friends and try to follow their paths. Were they hunting those ooey-gooey marine worms, or maybe even following a snail trail? Wading birds are graceful grazers on the mud flats and are known by their awesomely shaped bills. Dagger-like, curved towards the ground, and even shaped like a spoon. Ever wonder why they have such interestingly shaped bills? Well we’re going to find out this week. We’ll play some bird bingo, and try to make our own bird bills and put them to the test! Come have fun and leave your footprints on the beach with us this week!
August 5-9, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM
Munching Molars Week
Sheepshead might be the most smiley fish in the sea. If you ever get an up-close look at one they have a cute little buck tooth grin with teeth that look shockingly familiar. We are going to put on our dentist caps and take a bite into dental anatomy this week! We’ll explore the strangely fascinating teeth of sheepshead, along with other chompers in the sea – sharks, manatees, and even urchins. We’ll test out different teeth shapes and learn what they munch on and we are going to take a closer look at some special teeth under our microscope. The sheepshead won’t be the only ones smiling this week – just wait until you see your campers beaming after camp each day!
CAMPS FOR TEENS At Sundial
Counselor in Training (CIT) Program (ages 13-18)
Offered weekly, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (CITs arrive at 7:30 AM on Monday)
$210/ week, lunch not included for CITs
Our CIT program is a leadership program for older campers to learn and practice the skills needed for their future employment. CITs are a vital link between our younger campers and the staff in our programs. Through theory and practice, we teach our CITs how to be leaders and positive role models to those around them. We assign duties and create and maintain performance expectations for these young leaders. We treat them with gentleness, love and respect, but show them how to carry out the responsibilities they are now capable of and how to use their abilities to become excellent role models. On any given day, it is hard to tell who is having more fun, the campers or the CITs.
