SUMMER CAMP 2018 AT Sundial

We will continue to offer an additional summer camp location at the beachfront Sundial Resort on Sanibel in 2018. With Sundial as our partner, we will hold 3 weeks of Island Skills Camp for kids and Counselors in Training. This means more ocean exploration and more fun!

This camp will be small and meaningful, with big ocean experiences. The beachfront location means even more time in the water. And of course, no Sanibel Sea School camp would be complete without island exploration, surfing, macramé, and new friendships.

Sundial's Sanibel Sea School camp includes lunch for campers each day. At the end of each week families are invited to celebrate at our Milk & Cookies Slideshow, held at 3:30 PM on Fridays.

Mangrove Tree Crab Week

Can you imagine trying to climb a mangrove tree if you were a tiny crab? Sinuous prop roots and slippery bark towering over dark murky water – I wouldn’t want to fall in! But mangrove tree crabs are agile climbers that have those mangrove roots down! This week we’re going to head into the mangroves and try to climb from root to root. We’ll pick up the tiny crabs along the way and see if they’ll climb up our shirts. These crabs may be agile, but they’re also aggressive when it comes to their territory – they aren’t going to share their space. We’ll have territory competitions and try to carry as many eggs as we can like the mama crabs do. We can’t wait to scurry around with you this week!

July 30 - August 3, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Ninja Needlefish Week

What’s it like to have a needle for a nose? Kind of like wearing scissors on your face! Needlefish stalk their prey and with a flash can grasp unsuspecting prey with a sideways sweep of their needle-like beak. Hi-YA!  Needlefish are sort of like ocean ninjas, fast and stealthy and they always seem to sneak up on you. We’re going to be fast fish this week and try to catch a lot of fish ourselves. We’re going to leap out of the water and blend in with the top of the water like needlefish do. How hard is it to catch prey with a needle beak? We’ll find out by using our own beaks to bob for snacks in the water.

August 6-10, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Bivalves - Double the Shell, Double the Fun

What’s better than one shell? Two shells! Sanibel is home to many species of two-shelled creatures called bivalves that are super cool. Some bivalves can crawl, jump, and even swim. We think that calls for a great obstacle course that’s sort of like a Tough Mudder, but better. Bivalves are also important filter feeders in our marine ecosystem, so we’re going to sieve, filter, and strain everything we can – who knows what we will find! Trust us, you’ll be as happy as a clam this week.

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program (ages 13-18)

Offered weekly, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (CITs arrive at 7:30 AM on Monday)

$210/ week, lunch not included for CITs

Our CIT program is a leadership program for older campers to learn and practice the skills needed for their future employment. CITs are a vital link between our younger campers and the staff in our programs. Through theory and practice, we teach our CITs how to be leaders and positive role models to those around them. We assign duties and create and maintain performance expectations for these young leaders. We treat them with gentleness, love and respect, but show them how to carry out the responsibilities they are now capable of and how to use their abilities to become excellent role models. On any given day, it is hard to tell who is having more fun, the campers or the CITs.
