SUMMER CAMP 2016 AT Sundial

We're excited to share the news that beginning in Summer 2016, Sundial Resort will offer a summer camp in partnership with Sanibel Sea School. It will be our first-ever second summer camp location! With our Sundial partner, we will hold 4 weeks of Island Skills Camp for kids and Counselors in Training. This means more ocean exploration and more fun!

This camp will be small and meaningful, with big ocean experiences. The beachfront location means even more time in the water. And of course, no Sanibel Sea School camp would be complete without island exploration, surfing, macramé, and new friendships.

Sundial's Sanibel Sea School camp includes lunch for campers each day. At the end of each week families are invited to celebrate at our milk & cookies slideshow, held at 3:30 PM on Fridays.

The Real Deal Shark Week

Ok, ok, we know shark week is a big deal on TV. But when you watch Discovery Channel do you get to touch a shark - no. Dissect a shark - no. Swim like a shark - no. Be in the ocean thrashing around and catching prey - no. Swimming and running around with friends - no. This is WAY better! There’s so much about sharks that’s super cool, starting with the way they’re born, to their teeth and skin and let’s face it, all apex predators are pretty amazing!  The TV and the computer are pretty entertaining, but we have some real shark exploring to do!

July 11-15, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

I Wish I Were A Dolphin Week

What’s not to love about dolphins? Smart, playful, they love their friends and family and they’re phenomenal swimmers and jumpers. They speak to each other underwater and can find things without being able to see them! Don’t you wish you were a dolphin? Let’s find out more about these ocean superstars. And of course - we have to play in the water A LOT this week. We’ll find things with our masks blacked out by echolocation and we’ll play Capture the Fish! We’ll practice picking up objects from the seafloor and we’ll hone our “dolphin kick” finning technique. Mostly, we’ll have flippering fun this week.

July 18-22, 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Ferocious Lightning Whelk Week

Ok, you aren’t thinking shells are ferocious are you? You’re thinking they’re beautiful and graceful? Well lightning whelks are beautiful and ferocious. They’re also pretty fascinating! Let’s snip open a lightning whelk egg case (you’ve probably seen one but didn’t know what it was) and look at the hundreds of tiny whelks and the way they grow in a spiral.  Let’s do some spiraling art and dig down in the sand and pump water out the way whelks do. And let’s look at how these creatures hunt! And for all you lefties out there, this is your shell! These whelks open to the left side while most of the other shells around here open to the right!

Counselor in Training (CIT) Program (ages 13-18)

Offered most weeks, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM (CITs arrive at 7:30 AM on Monday)

$200/ week, lunch not included for CITs

Our CIT program is a leadership program for older campers to learn and practice the skills needed for their future employment. CITs are a vital link between our younger campers and the staff in our programs. Through theory and practice, we teach our CITs how to be leaders and positive role models to those around them. We assign duties and create and maintain performance expectations for these young leaders. We treat them with gentleness, love and respect, but show them how to carry out the responsibilities they are now capable of and how to use their abilities to become excellent role models. On any given day, it is hard to tell who is having more fun, the campers or the CITs.
